Why self-care is so important during your work day

Running a business and household can be exhausting. The to-do list can feel never ending! You have orders to fulfill, team members to check in with, and, oh yeah, dinner to plan. What are you doing to take care of yourself?

Making self-care part your work day is so important! You can’t take care of everyone else when you can’t take care of yourself. Implementing a few simple routines can help ease some of your stress. And they won’t take much time at all!

Create a morning routine

I am not saying that you have to wake up way earlier than you usually do, but when you first get up, be mindful about how you spend the beginning of your day. Resist the urge to jump into emails or news headlines. Ease into your day with something that makes you feel good. Sip your tea, take a walk, read a book, write in your journal…..whatever works for you.

Take a midday break

You’re probably going to take a break to eat lunch, so let’s make the most of your time. If the weather is nice, eat outside and get some fresh air. Take this opportunity to move, whether that looks like stretching, walking, or jumping jacks. Getting your blood flowing is good for the brain! You will benefit from a small reset in the middle of the day. If you just want to take a minute to sit in silence, that is great too.

Breathe

Speaking of sitting in silence, taking deep breaths is proven to lower our heart rates and reduce stress. So when you hit a wall and feel frustration or anxiety creeping in, stop for a minute and focus on your breathing. This almost always makes me feel more calm. Ahhhh……

I know you’ll find peace when practicing these simple tips. I hope you have a productive and relaxing day!
